Bob Kelly's tour of GN Montana Depots #1 - up at the crack of dawn; #2 - a busload of Depot lovers; #3 - John Tracy gives us a rundown; #4 - Bus captain Mark Meyer. #5 - Glacier Park Depot in early morning light; #6 - Camp Disappointment Monument (Lewis & Clark). First stop: Cut Bank, MT depot. #1 - Close up of the boys; #2 - Cut Bank depot; #3 - original and rusty GN sign; #4 - Train hype!; #5 - Right on cue, BNSF sends us an auto train. Second stop: Cut Bank, MT historical museum. #1 - Ben Ringnalda checks out the facilities; #2 - Climbing into an old building; #3 - inside boonie building; #4 - curator tells us about building's history; #5 - On a tour of a model homestead; #6 - Inside homestead cabin; #7 - you can see how small it was - cabin for one! #8, #9, #10 - Mark Meyer explains original Cut Bank GN interlocking equipment his father used to operate. #11 - checking out a BN caboose. #12, #13, #14 - BNSF had a nice little display of modern MOW equipment for our group. Thank you, BNSF! Third stop: Kevin, MT depot. #1 - Kevin station sign along ex-GN Shelby-Sweet Grass line; #2 - Kevin depot, now a senior center; #3 - Free cookies!!!; #4 - Ex-BN caboose masquerading as a GN; #5 - close up of caboose. Fourth stop: Shelby, MT museum. #1 - Unloading the buses; #2 - Standing in the chow line; #3 - lunch time; #4 - fill 'er up. #5 - White-lined BN caboose; #6 - checking out an old tank car. Fifth stop: Shelby depot #1 - Depot board; #2 - east end of depot; #3 - inside Shelby depot; #4 - These guys are SERIOUS about safety... Sixth stop: Conrad, MT depot and museum #1 - Conrad depot sign; #2 - Conrad depot in the rustic style; #3 - Old General Foods logo on elevator; #4 - Watering hole across from the depot (I love the LTD!); #5 & #6 - Inside the Conrad museum a couple blocks from the depot. #1 - lots of trains at Shelby viewed from the bus; #2 - Cut Bank's famous talking penguin. Seventh stop: Checking out the Cut Bank trestle. #1 & #2 - trestle looks good, but no trains today. Eighth stop: Browning, MT depot. #1 - Browning depot sign; #2 - depot looking east; #3 - depot looking west. |
