Historical Information Wanted: This section is devoted entirely to requests for historical and/or general information which may take time to research or develop, and to special needs for GNRHS projects. The attention of all members is specially directed to this request page. Please participate to help GNRHS members fill historical and preservation objectives. Wanted: Information on the dispositions of the two Somers Lumber company fireless locomotives (Somers S1 and S2), used in the Somers tie plant until about 1985. Kenneth R. I grew up (in the 50's) living in the GN depots in Bremen, ND and Karlsruhe, ND (on the Surrey Cutoff). I would like information on these type depots. Send to Tom Hall, P.O. Wanted: When in October 1951, the Great Northern Railway acquired the Pacific Coast Railroad, the GN initially assigned a used 25-foot GN caboose of the X330 to X749 series and later, after its assumed retirement, a used 30-foot GN caboose of the X198 to X249 series to the PCR. Both cars carried the number P.C.R.R. X1, depending on the era. Does anyone of the members know what the original GN X-numbers of these two cars were? Wanted: Information to aid with the restoration of the Pullman sleeper "JOHN MCLOUGHLIN". This car is located at the Illinois Railway Museum in Union, Illinois. In particular, we are looking for the lettering drawings giving the dimensions of the Empire Builder configuration lettering used from 1929 to 1947. We also need photos of the interior and exterior of the car. Refer to GNRHS Ref Sheet #110 for info on this car used in the heavyweight EB consist. The line started in 1904 and was bought by the Great Northern in 1916. The towns of Crooks, Tyler, Lyons, Colton, Huntimer, Chester Brant Lake, Wentworth, Rutland Nunda, Siania, Como, and Watertown were on the line. Needed for a book are photos and any information which I will return or buy. Credit will be given for items. This photo CD documents the thirty-six stations established by the GN as they followed the Wenatchee and the Skykomish rivers while crossing the Cascade Mountains in Washington State. A data sheet provides summary information for each depots' establishment and traces the changes at each station. Over 300 images of depot photos, GN blueprints, aerial photos and topographical maps document each location. Multiple views of depots are provided when available. We are still looking for some depot photos to complete the set. The CD is sold for personal use only and reproduction requires permission. All images are .jpg files and data files are provided as Microsoft Word and as plain text. The CD is sold for US $22.50 postage paid in the USA. International postage will be additional. Proceeds of the sale will fund society programs and be shared with institutions that assisted in creating the collection. Wanted: Interior and exterior wood work for restoring the GN Depot in Arnegard, ND. Interior - Need 3/4 x 2 1/4 (sometimes referred to as 13/16 x 2 1/4) V-Jointed Ceiling type of wainscoting. This material is what was used in the Waiting Rooms & Ticket/Agents office. Exterior - "Drop Siding" pattern #106 (lower) and "Drop Siding" pattern #115 (upper) which is the material generally used in or on any GN wooden structure.
