The Skykomish Historical Society and Great Northern Railway Historical Society are co-sponsoring “GN Day in Sky” on September 9, 2017. The informal event will be held at the Masonic Hall in Skykomish, WA from 9:30 AM to 4:00 PM.
The program will consist of short presentations and GN displays by people attending, so please bring GN ephemera and models to show – tables will be provided. Plenty of time will be set aside for informal discussions and for a tour of the town. There will be a Saturday Market along Railroad Avenue, the Sky Society museum will be open, and the GN&C Railway will be operating at the depot. GN caboose X228 is just a short walk away. The museum also has a new display on constructing the 8-Mile Cascade Tunnel. Copies of the new book Remembering When – Memories of the Great Northern Cascade Division and More will be available.
Lunch can be purchased from the Sky Deli or bring your own.
The event is free and open to the public.
Presentations this year will include Surveying GN’s 8-Mile Cascade Tunnel and Craig Thorpe will describe his approach to creating railroad art and show prints from some of the 350 paintings he has completed.
